I really wanted to write a constructive comment, but this is not the place nor time. Let's just enjoy our last page together.
It was a crazy and sad ride, but I'm proud I could be a part of it.
Moth, I sent you a private message on Comic Fury, I have a few personal things I wanted you to know and I don't want to post them here.
i know i commented yesterday but. im saying this with 100% sincerity and seriousness: this is my favorite story of what i think is all time. ive only been reading since march but i was instantly hooked and i eagerly awaited every update. i'm sad to see it go of course but it was a truely incredible read, and i thank you from the bottom of my heart for not only thinking of it but sharing us with us as well. thank you, and goodbye Raining Knives. ♡
It's been so much much fun reading this story these last couple of years and coming up with theories. One of my favorite stories of all time. Best wishes.
I don’t know what I expected from the epilogue, but this exceeded it. It’s heavy, fitting and consequential. And it’ll stick with me. I’ll miss looking forward to these updates and the tense waits between them, but I’m sure I’ll revisit this comic again from time to time. It’s the type that merits a re-read.
So thank you again, Moth, for this series, this art and the characters in it. I’ll definitely be giving my sister a hug today ❤️
Moth, I've been following this story, mostly silently, for years. What you've done is incredible, and I don't think I'll ever stop rereading this. Good luck in all your future projects, and thanks for giving us all a great time!
How in the world did you complete this marvelous, extra long page in a single day, Moth? The ending is perfect, even if I have no idea how Dylan is paying for this long trip he's on; that's not important. ;)
I know you said this was a one shot deal and you aren't planning on another project, but you know where to find us if you ever do start another. And like someone said, I think on the previous page, if you ever decide to put this in print (or even PDF), let me know, I'd be interested in buying a copy so I can enjoy your impressive use of light and color to bring your great style and scene framing to life. :)
Gosh, I feel like every page of this comic was a total punch to the heart (saying that, I loved every minute of it).
Thank you Moth for working so hard to share this story. I can't imagine all that went into it. I completely understand if you never post anything else and we support you either way.
Dang. That got more depressing as it went on ;_;
For a second I thought Dylan settled everything but apparently he could never get over it?
Cruel but it really is how it happened.
Very well done and again, good luck with any possible future stuff! :>
After following this comic since like the middle or so, this being the last page makes me feel like I need to leave a comment for the first time.
This has been such a good ride, Moth.
This page hurts me, cause though we know that Jeremy was a real ghost, Dylan can't really know that. After everything, it's still plausible to him that he hallucinated all of it. He doesn't have any solid closure, and that gets to me.
Anyway, lovely comic - I'll probably reread it from the start at some point, just to see what I missed the first time.
I read this on Tapas and I had no idea it was here on Comicfury too! I love this comic so much and it really makes you think about the consequences of your actions and thinking before you act. I love it so so so so so much!
Oh man, what a journey. This was amazing and I'ma miss it!
SO many feels. I was not prepared. That drawing of Jerry got me. Oh man.
Congrats on finishing! :D
hey, im new to ComicFury because SmackJeeves people are migrating over, and I figured Id check out whats here.
I just read this comic in one sitting and it was phenomenal. the characters' depth, every plot twist, the whole storyline? this was amazing to read. I cried multiple times. this epilogue is making me cry.
im sad I wasnt reading this while it was being updated, but im so happy I was able to read it all the way through. holy hell. thank you for breaking my heart
I wanted to wait until I had finished re-reading the comic before posting my final thoughts…
Raining Knives was probably the best web comic I've ever read… period. It hit that itch I had for a murder mystery story with some sentient ghosts. And to top it off, the focus of the story was the tense relationship between brothers. To see something that isn't driven by romance in this day and age is an extremely rare treat, and I loved watching Dylan hide his secrets, confess them, try to make amends… and it was all so deliberately rocky… it was an amazing rollercoaster and I'll be forever thankful that you opted to share this with us.
The knife - when they were younger, Jerry caused Dylan to crash his bike and left him there. Dylan used the knife to cut himself up to make himself seem more injured for sympathy. I replaced it with different excerpts of their childhood because I didn't want to venture into self-harm.
Cail's eyes/the roses - Cail was originally a much bigger part of the story, playing essentially Vic's role, so his eyes were scratched out to suggest he was going to be important... but then he wasn't. I decided to leave him as a red herring in this version. He's the funeral girl's boyfriend and she told him to keep an eye on Dylan, she gives Cail roses and sometimes he drops them. It would have been quickly explained but due to a cock-up where I started following the wrong thumbnails, that page got omitted. This is one of the things that nags me most about the story, it was set up, didn't really go anywhere, and then I just forgot to close it
Suit and young Dylan - it's malachy, I know he shouldn't be in a suit when dylan was that young but Dylan's recalling his presence more than anything so putting a dude in a suit behind him made it clear it was 'suit jerry'. I think it's the first(?) panel that suggests malachy's been there a long time.
What crashed - I don't know, Chris is just clumsy and I wanted to interrupt Corey at that point
Jerry's sun sketch - just another instance of the sun mosaic being important and also real because it's something Jerry also saw I guess
No, Dylan just suggested Chris study the hospital because he knew it got shut down
Thank you very much for reading and theorising. Glad you enjoyed!
Thank-youfor creating! And I look forward to following your next creative endeavor whenever and whatever that may be.
And thanks for humoring me with those little details. I especially like the explanation for the crash. It puts the framing of that page in a context that I hadn't even considered.
After all this time, I still think about raining knives. You're a big inspiration to me, and this webcomic holds a very special place in my heart. I loved seeing your art and other story concepts on twitter too. Thank you for all the art you've brought into this world. I hope you're doing well :-)
Sometimes I remember that Raining Knives exists and was such a pleasure to read that I drop things just to read it again. Hope that you're still creating out there, Mothtrap!
I just heard about this comic and read the whole thing in a couple days. The panel compositions are so great! Really glad I read it. It's such a great look at grief and regret and the (im)possibility of forgiveness.

Wow, this was incredible. The whole comic, I super loved it, and this ending is really really good, I have to say. Magnificent job.

Well done! Standing ovations!
(Also, I just now realize that the story was taking place in 2005. And in England.)
PlasmaPuff
Malachy died ~10 years before, so I think it’s taking place closer to 2015
Moth
yeah it's 2016 in the story because that's the year this version started (the epilogue is meant to be 2019 ;D )

Excuse you, this comic was incredibly touching and well made. Additionally, there was no reason for you to write that comment.
Moth, this was incredible, and I've never been so touched by a comic as I have been by this one. Thank you for writing this.

The characters were horrible and so was the story

Then...why did you read it if you thought it was so terrible? Just close the page instead of being toxic.

On top of your excellent story telling, you're an amazing artist. some of my favorite pages that you created.
(Also, I have an ultra soft spot for the boys being (dead) boys)
As for my questions…
You mentioned that the knife in this comic was based on an old draft. What was the original plan?
Why were Cail's eye's crossed out?
I'm like 90% sure that Cail was behind the roses. But I'd still like to hear the story behind them.
What's the significance of the panel with young Dylan and the suit covering his eye? I don't think it's Mal.
What crashed?
I'm surprised that Jerry's sketch of the Sun Moseic never came up. Was that an easter egg, or was something planned for it?
Am I right that Rob possessed Dylan and told him to research the hospital?. If so, kinda odd.
Moth
good questions!
