For years, huh? Is this the first time Dylan mentioned something like this? Explains his reaction when "Suit Jerry" appeared to him. And I guess all the side text as well (voices).
Sucks. This means Dylan had it much harder for him. I figured "Suit Jerry" is with him since the hospital but not that Dylan has been listening to him for ages.
I guess the question is how much of everything that transpired was prepared by "Suit Jerry" like manipulating him into hating his brother. Maybe. I do not see a reason for such drastic measures yet if that even could be a thing.
It would sure as hell give credit to Dylan's "You made me do it!"
Yeah it's the first time, which is why I'm doubting my decision to reveal it like this? I guess the only hints I left were dylan reacting to the first black text boxes as though he's used to them
it's... a risky chapter, I've not been so uncertain about the story before
Uncertainty probably comes from the fact that you know everything that is going to happen. I can only work with what I am given but right now I can say it smashed a mental boulder I had for... since forever. Why the two seemed too familiar with each other and what the hell happened in the hospital back then - how much of a origin point I can consider it. This confirms Dylan has been haunted all the way from that moment and POSSIBLY manipulated into certain actions over the course his life. Why? No idea at all.
That is all I can offer to this. Unless someone perceptive has nice ideas :>
I'm glad at least it makes some sense, cuz just Dylan saying it outright is pretty out of the blue. idk I threw myself off when I read this back today.
No ideas, but now I'm wondering why did he only haunt Dylan if both were there (unless something else happened we haven't seen yet that made him choose Dylan). Or unless Jerry reveals he heard his voice too....
Also I think I saw real life Cail yesterday. Spooky part is neither me or my boss saw him leave....
People are surprised Dyl has been hearing him for this long? I got the impression that he’d been hearing voices for a good portion of his life since the scratchy looking mental “chatter” appeared within the first few pages. I guess I just mentally associated that with suitboi once he appeared. Dyl was definitely surprised to see his dead brother floating around as that was a new development, but it makes more sense now that he took those dark speech bubbles in stride. As for the abruptness from Dylan, I actually like it a lot. He’s not the type for social grace or dancing around things and it’s kinda fitting that he’d drop that sort of bomb without much ceremony. He’s a secretive dude, makes sense that we as the readers wouldn’t know everything about him. I for one think these risks that you’re taking are paying off :)
So this means that Rob's brother has been dead for quite a long time, meaning Rob himself was quite young when it happened. It's possible his parents told him his brother moved away rather than traumatize him with the truth.
Is it any better if I say he's aware but kind of in denial?
It's why he thinks of this as the town where everyone dies and why he laughs after he says he'll join his brother, same way he laughs after his gf asks if his family would miss him.
He knows it ain't gonna happen
Honestly it makes sense to me. The part earlier where the kids were like "Do you need a ride to the mental hospital, oh no is he talking to himself" sealed in the perception that he has had mental problems and heard voices for years and that people had known. I had figured Dylan may have gone under psychiatric care of some sort and that he has heard voices since at least that year in school, probably longer. So him saying to Jerry that it had been years is not an huge reveal to me. It's more like he's realizing/theorizing aloud with Jerry that he's not mental, it's a ghost.
Good good
I would definitely say he's more theorising than saying he knows for certain it was the ghost guy since he hasn't exactly seen him before, only talked to him
but yeah, I'm glad!
"It's more like he's realizing/theorizing aloud with Jerry that he's not mental, it's a ghost."
Good point.
I guess you can see it from both sides. For Dylan ghosts were probably what they are to us. Something that does not exist, something supernatural. I was not completely sure the voices were really the ghost since there was an idea floating around that it is simply shown as hallucination and Dylan is imagining things.
But since ghosts ARE most definitely real here I think it makes sense to consider his side and the fact that he might still need a few checks to truly confirm that. In which case there really was not any other option for the voices to be something else. Yeah.

ghost cail has passed into the human realm

I guess Dylan was an easier target and maybe his dislike for Jerry could have been exploited as I suggested. Hard to say at this point.
Since there is the whole business about their real Dad I suspect the two families are somehow related. Could be?

Yep, I agree with griffsketch. :)

ah I'm glad you relate the scratchy text to him then, it is supposed to be linked to his presence but it's not exactly explicit so
Yay :D
I mostly feel like maybe Dylan wouldn't be so certain about it himself, but I guess he's made up his mind!

its nice that you got to upload on jerry's deathiversary, if i remember the date you told me on tapas correctly

Oh yeah! I think so
Happy deathday, Jerry, hope Dylan got you a present

Knowing that Rob probably hasn't been aware of his brother death for... 10 years? makes me very sad for some reason.
